Should I wear a mask and/or gloves to protect myself from COVID-19?
Non-medical masks are now mandatory in public spaces. This includes taking the bus, buying groceries or spending time in a community centre. You do not need to wear a mask when in your own home.
Who is exempt from wearing a mask in public spaces?
- People under the age of 12
- People who cannot put on/remove a mask on their own
- People with physical, mental or cognitive impairments
Why wear a mask?
- You could spread COVID-19 to your community even if you do not feel sick. Masks protect your fellow community members!
If I wear a mask do I still need to do physical distancing?
- YES! It is best to keep 2m or 6ft between yourself and others. Masks do not substitute for physical distancing!

When do I need to wear gloves?
- When you are routinely cleaning and disinfecting your home
- If you are caring for someone who is sick with COVID-19
- Outside of cleaning and caregiving, gloves are not needed!
Why not?
- While running errands, gloves will not necessarily protect you from getting COVID-19 and may still lead to the spread of germs
- The best way to protect yourself from COVID-19 when going out is to regularly wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol
